Doug Gordon

Principal

Mr. Gordon is a co-founder of Molten Layer and a nationally recognized corporate governance expert.  He created a director education program certified by Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS): “The Buck Stops in the Boardroom -Empowering Today’s Directors”, that he has presented to boards of directors of NYSE and NASDAQ listed companies across the country including Constellation Energy, National Oilwell Varco, and Fairchild Semiconductor.

Mr. Gordon began his professional career in 1978 as an associate and later as a partner at the Wood Campbell Moody & Gibbs law firm in Houston where he practiced business and real estate law. In 1982, he joined Gordon Jewelry Corporation ($550M annual sales; 6K employees) as corporate counsel and later as Executive Vice President, board member, and a member of the six-person Executive Management Committee that ran the company’s day-to-day operations, as well as a member of the Real Estate Committee. As Executive Vice President, he directed the Guild Jewelry Division with overall P&L responsibility for all its 220 jewelry stores, 1,500 employees and $135M in annual sales. As a member of the Real Estate Committee, Mr. Gordon jointly decided all store openings and closings, and all real estate purchases and sales. As corporate counsel, he coordinated legal aspects of company operations, including S.E.C. reporting, vendor contracts, insurance and financial matters, and litigation.

After Gordon’s was acquired by Zale Corporation, Mr. Gordon moved to San Diego, California in 1997 to become the Chief Operating Officer (and later CEO) of an internet company specializing in online software applications for the commercial printing industry. In 2001, Mr. Gordon returned to a full-time law practice in business and corporate governance law in San Diego where he remained until he returned to Houston in 2014 to join Harberg Huvard Jacobs Wadler LLP.

He graduated with a B.A. cum laude from Harvard University and a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law.

Some of Mr. Gordon’s professional affiliations include being a board member and secretary of the Corporate Counsel Section of the Houston Bar Association (HBA), and the creator and moderator of an HBA Corporate Counsel Section CLE program: “Shareholder Activism: New Barbarians at the Gate?


He has created and presented his ½ hour social studies program: “Normandy Loves

US…The Untold Story” in France and the USA. The French tell why they love Americans

today even 70 plus years after their liberation.
